chick-lit :: sunny and silly

Chick lit keeps on clicking
Pity the female writer who tries to break the moul – anne kingston – national post (kanada)

Pity the young female writer who wants to explore women’s experience with any texture, depth or complexity. A decade ago, authors such as Kathy Acker, Susan Minot and Pam Houston didn’t have to worry their work would be reduced to a generic marketing slogan that also can be a putdown. Now the market calls for simplistic narratives that are both sunny and silly, and are ripe for movie adaptation. Clearly, it’s time to kill the term chick lit, and the sooner the better.
